"I would like to let you know how much we enjoyed our holiday with Gill and Dave. We were very impressed with their efforts to make everyone enjoy the holiday, they deserve to make the venture a success, which, judging by our own enjoyment, and subsequent recommendations, it will be. The personal input from them put the holiday up on a higher plane to the normal walking holiday, and, I know from the comments made by the other members within the party they would agree with that comment, and, like us, know how much they appreciated Gill and Dave’s input. We personally would have liked to make the stay longer – we will settle for going back soon!! " Vivian Parfitt, Ruislip, Middx
"I just had to say a few words about the best holiday I have had for years. Dave and Jill are fantastic hosts, the itinerary was flexible and the food excellent especially our packed lunches and vino!!! The walks were excellent. What a lovely way to organise a holiday. I will make a return visit in the New Year. Need I say more?" Jenny Duff Sutton, Surrey |

Maria and her Friends ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the most popular events of our walking weeks is the visit to Maria’s cortijo in the hills above Torrox for a spectacular Andalucian feast. The menu varies according to the season. The dishes are cooked by Maria and her friends of Torrox, in front of you – a good moment to learn the secrets of the Andalusia cuisine. Maria's brother is a farmer in the campo so we can guarantee lots of fresh veg etc. And you will enjoy traditional local dishes that you can´t get in the restaurants such as Migas. Migas is a traditional food of the campo prepared in a huge paella pan. It consists of fried breadcrumbs olive oil and garlic and they add various fish or meat depending on the area of Axarquia. Every year Torrox hosts a Migas Festival which attracts about 20,000 people. The Town Hall organise free Migas and Vino del Terreno. Its a great day out and attracts lots of Spanish and foreigners with market stalls, flamenco dancing and music and a real party atmosphere.
Vino del Terreno The first of the 9 courses at Maria’s consists of a glass of the local Moscatel wine, or “Vino del Terreno” as the locals call it, literally “Wine from the Garden”. Most of the families in the village have a small plot of land in the countryside on which they grow grape vines. The grapes ripen quickly under the hot Andalucian sun, and are harvested during August. The bulk of the grapes are Moscatel, but other varieties such as “Corazon del Cabrito” (Heart of the Kid Goat, due to it’s pink colour) and tiny deep purple grapes add colour and ensure that each individual producers wine differs from the next. Maria has her Uncle’s wine available for purchase, and you can see the bodega where the barrels are stored – depending on the season you may also see the wine being made. |
